HOME OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

All over America, individuals with developmental disabilities own their own homes.  If home ownership is something you truly want, we can assist you!

The Arc Home Ownership Specialist helps people with developmental disabilities and families supporting a person with a developmental disability create a plan to buy a home of their own.  Our “person-centered” approach draws on your talents, skills and capacities, making you the decision-maker in planning for home ownership.  Our program will help you:

  • Qualify for a mortgage
  • Prepare your loan application
  • Find the right house for you
  • Manage your finances
  • Maintain your home after purchase

To be eligible, you must:
  • Have a documented developmental disability that is attributed to a mental or physical condition before the age of 22, which is likely to continue indefinitely and substantially limits three or more major life activities such as self-care, learning, mobility etc.
  • Meet household income requirements and qualify for help through the funding and down payment assistance programs
  • Purchase a new or existing single-family home or condominium in the Spokane area
  • Complete orientation and homebuyer education and classes

We will help you develop an action plan that breaks down the complex tasks of homeownership into manageable pieces. Your plan will be implemented over months or even years until you reach your homeownership goal. Contact Cathie Griffith at 328-6326 or cgriffith@arc-spokane.org to participate.
